Episode Five: Singing For Supper


Sunday morning begins with a start as Daisy hears suspicious noises underneath her bed!

Moving her bedframe, she spots a mouse hole and a tiny mouse scuttling around! Gross! Luckily, she's prepared and quickly places some traps down, soon eradicating the infestation

Grossed out but pleased at her ability to so quickly deal with her problem, Daisy goes about her morning making breakfast

Treating herself to pancakes!

Penny calls Daisy soon after breakfast and invites her to the flea market to snatch a bargain

After her promotion yesterday, Daisy decides she deserves a treat and heads over to the next neighbourhood to browse the items for sale

She quickly spots a couch she likes the look of - it's similar to her old one but a much nicer colour; she snaps it up for $169!

And even manages to sell her old couch and some trinkets she found in an old storage box for $180, ending up making a profit on her trip to the market!

Daisy bids Penny goodbye and heads back to her apartment

Where she, sat on her new couch, receives a text from Luna, her new friend from the library. It's karaoke night at the local bar and there's a $500 prize for the best singer!

Despite knowing she's not that great of a singer (level 3 from music lessons back home), she heads out anyway to try it out!

Arriving at the bar and greeting Luna, Daisy is pleased to hear that the person currently singing inside is not very good - maybe she's in with a chance after all!

She jumps up on stage and belts out an old favourite - she breaks a few notes and misses a few words, but her stage presence has the crowd clapping along!

She's joined for an encore by Luna, and the two giggle their way through a sappy love song together

The last few contestants sing their piece and the winner is announced: with 33/100, DAISY WINS! She's beyond thrilled and secretly plans to keep the money in her savings for the new apartment - though, despite the true importance of the $500 to Daisy, she's simply happy to have had a night out with a friend, and to finally feel like the normal teenager she always wished she could be

It's closing time at the bar and, not wanting the night to end just yet, Daisy treats herself and Luna to some egg rolls from a nearby food stand

The girls share their food, they chat, and Daisy shares a little more of her story with Luna - however, she still keeps her daughter a secret, for now at least
